Combined Science

Combined science is a core topic and can achieve a maximum of 2 GCSE’s. All students nationally are required to take at the minimum combined science. Students that enjoy science can be selected or apply for separate science. Separate science can achieve 3 GCSE’s. At the end of their GCSE’s students will either sit higher or foundation paper. Higher paper can achieve a grade 5-9 where as foundation can achieve a grade 1-5.

All students in KS3 and beyond study all 3 sciences, this is a compulsory core topic. KS3 is the foundation years of GCSE science. Different schools use alternative methods in setting students by ability to determine what path the student will take. Some students are set from year 7 based on in house assessment results. Other schools set their students from year 9.

From year 10 the student will generally know if they are to sit combined science or separate
